  1. If you follow Fabritastic on facebook you may recall a previous post where I set myself a, not so, small challenge whereby the whole family will have no shop bought clothing for the period of 1 year.  Yikes.

At the time it seemed easy enough but I soon realised there would have to be some exceptions.  Some rules, if you like.

    • I cannot knit, maybe, given large enough needles and some chunky wool, I could probably rustle up a scarf but that really is my limit.  Neither do I have the time to learn – Therefore knitwear is an exception.
    • Shoes are also an exception.  For obvious reasons.
    • Socks.  I have been racking my brains and I really think these have to be an exception too.
    • 2nd hand clothing is permissible as are gifts and hand-me-downs, but I will always try to customise where possible.

With the challenge in mind I was delighted to be asked to test out this pattern for My Childhood Treasures.  With all the summer dresses packed away my girl’s are in desperate need for a winter dress so this fit the bill perfectly.

I used Robert Kaufman's Laguna Jersey in Amethest as the main colour.  I was a little nervous about this project having never sewn with stretch fabric before but Dixi at Little Childhood Treasures assured me it was suitable for beginners and no special equipment was required (with the exception of a ballpoint needle).  Her pattern includes tips for sewing with stretch fabric as well as step by step instructions.

Here’s a picture of my efforts and I must say I am converted and can’t wait to embark on my next “stretch” project.  I think we can safely say that my eldest little-tastic is delighted with the results too – She particularly loves the twirl in the skirt.
